The Mariola pigeons, a structural pigeon, is one of the oldest breedsof pigeons in Portugal. It is said that its origin dates back to the period of Islamic invasions of the Iberic Peninsula that occurred from 711 to 1139 A.C. This pigeon has certain similarities with the Spanish Flamenca, which was also brought by Arabs during the time of Islamic invasions.
