İndianer - Barb Anglais - Barb pigeons |
The
Barb is a moderate sized pigeon weighing 13 to 16 ounces and attaining 12 to 14 inches in length. Originally Barbs were said to have come from the North African Barbary coast thus explaining their English name. The breed was referred to by William Shakespeare " I will be more jealous of thee than a
Barbary cock - pigeon over his hen" It was also referred to with illustration in Charles Darwin's Variation of Animals and Plants under Domestication. Darwin used a
Barb cock bird in crosses with almond tumblers and fantails during his studies.
The eye cere is one of the chief properties of the Barb. It continues to grow until the bird is three to four years old. The cere should be bright red but as the bird ages the cere may turn a lighter shade of red. The Barb is a self colored pigeon found in black, red, white, yellow, dunn and rarely other colors.
