Parlor roller-tumbler pigeons ( parlour )

parlor tumbler - parlour
parlor roller - tumbler pigeons

The Parlor Roller is a breed of domesticated pigeon developed over many years of selective breeding. Parlor Rollers, along with other varieties of domesticated pigeons, are all descendants from the Rock Pigeon (Columba livia). The breed is known for its unique performance of turning somersaults on the ground. Parlor Rollers are considered to be further development from the Parlor Tumbler. Although adult parlor rollers seem to lack the capability of flight, they are generally grouped in the flying/sporting group of pigeons by fanciers in the United States. This is because parlor roller competitions are based almost solely on the distance that the animal rolls on the ground and the appearance of the animal is a secondary consideration.

Many people think that the American  Baldhead Roller is the most beautiful of all pigeons. The baldhead color pattern occurs in both flying and exhibition roller pigeons. They lay two eggs per clutch. Eggs hatch in approximately 18 days. Both male and female pigeons incubate eggs and feed their young. Male pigeons incubate the eggs from late morning to late afternoon and the female takes her turn in the late afternoon to late morning. Both parent birds feed and protect their babies.

Galatzer Roller  - Rouleur de Galati - Galatz Roller, Galați Tumbler  -  Jucător de Galați
the Galatz Roller or Galați Roller' is a domesticated pigeon breed originating in Galați County, Romania. Because these pigeons perform air acrobatics when they fly, they became very popular among pigeon fanciers in both the country of origin and the rest of Europe, especially in Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium. The air acrobatics that these Galați Roller birds perform are comparable to those of the Oriental Roller and Birmingham Roller pigeons.

Birmingham Roller

birmingham roller -
Birmingham Roller-Rouleur de Birmingham-Birmingham Roller
The Birmingham Roller is a very popular breed of domesticated pigeon that originated in Birmingham, England, where they were developed via selective breeding, for their ability to do rapid backward somersaults while flying. As the name suggests and as also mentioned by Wendell Levi in his book The Pigeon, this breed was developed in and around the City of Birmingham in England. The Birmingham Roller has a flying type and a show type. Show Rollers are larger than the flying variety, and are bred just for show. A similar breed called a Parlor Roller look much like Birmingham Rollers, but can't fly; rather, they spin backwards, somersaulting on the ground for many yards. Oriental Rollers are another aerial performer and come in many colour varieties. Some fanciers fly their rollers in competition, both locally and nationally. There is even a World Cup competition that includes several other countries. Kits (group of pigeons) are scored for quality and depth, as well as the number of birds that roll at the same time, referred to as a turn or break. The Birmingham Roller is a very popular breed of performing pigeon, with around 10,000 breeders worldwide.

Sarajevski Prevrtac - roller pigeons
Sarajevoroller  -  Rouleur de Sarajevo  -  Sarajewo Roller -  Sarajevski Prevrtac
Ancestors of Sarajevo Roller were brought to Bosnia during the Ottoman rule of the country. In old documents from that period from this region records exist that tell us of breeding this type of pigeon. According to those records roller pigeons were kept by Beys and the wealthy citizens of Sarajevo. One of the most famous chronicler of that time, Mula Mustafa Bešeskija, in his book "Last Bešeskija recording" written in 1970, he mentions roller pigeons, which Sarajevans (citizens of Sarajevo) bring to Bentbaša in baskets, then let them out and watch them flight and roll while lying on their backs.

Rakovnik roller pigeons ( Rakovnicky Kotrlák )

Rouleur de Rakovnik - roller pigeons
Rakonitzer Roller - Rouleur de Rakovnik - Rakovnik Roller - Rakovnicky Kotrlák
Rakovnik Rollers, the only Czech original breed of contemporary light akrobatic pigeons. The breed was named after the city of Rakovnik (40 miles from Prague) - a place where the elite of the stock birds came from. Old records mention that the breed originated as early as in 1850´s. Rakovnik Roller is a pretty, little pigeon. It is extremely fertile and raises its youngsters very well. The Breeding Standard handbook requires the pigeon to be of short body, large chest, small head with wide forehead - a bit flattened on vertices, and short, and a short, slightly thicker beak. Its most valuable characteristic is the ability to roll its body (somersault) in flight. The Rakovnik Roller can do that to this day - which is great, other breeds lost the ability to roll long time ago. Some of the Rakovnik Rollers can somersault over and over and, most of the time, they clap their wings while rolling.
